Installing on your store

Requirements

  • A Shopify store on any paid plan
  • An Online Store 2.0 theme (anything published since 2021)
  • Subscriptions enabled on your store — Shopify turns this on when a subscription app is installed

Install

  1. Open Super Subscription from the Shopify App Store and click Install.
  2. Review the permissions and approve.
  3. You land on the dashboard with your store connected.

What the permissions are for

PermissionWhy it is needed
ProductsTo show your catalogue in the plan builder and price the widget
OrdersTo record each renewal against its subscription
CustomersTo match a subscriber to the person signing into the portal
Subscription contractsTo create and update the subscriptions themselves
Payment methodsTo tell whether a contract can be charged, and to send update links
App proxyTo serve the widget and portal from your own domain

We also request access to protected customer fields — name, email, phone and address. Without email there is no way to send a renewal reminder or a portal sign-in code, so the app degrades to being read-only for anything customer-facing. Shopify grants these separately from the permissions above.

Add the theme block

Subscriptions only appear on your storefront once the theme block is placed.

  1. Online Store → Themes → Customize
  2. Open a product template
  3. Add blockSubscribe & save
  4. Drag it under the price, above Add to cart
  5. Save

Repeat for each product template you use — many stores have more than one.

Reinstalling removes the block

If you ever uninstall and reinstall the app, Shopify drops the theme block. The app cannot put it back for you: that needs theme write access, which we deliberately do not request. Re-add it in the theme editor.

Verify the install

Open any product you attached a plan to, in a normal browser tab:

  • The subscription options should appear with the discounted price
  • Choosing one and adding to cart should show the plan name on the cart line
  • Completing an order should make a subscriber appear in the dashboard within seconds

If any of those fail, see Troubleshooting.

Uninstalling

Uninstall from Shopify admin like any app. What happens:

  • Your subscription contracts stay on your store — they are Shopify's objects, not ours
  • Automatic renewals stop, because nothing is left coordinating them
  • The widget and portal stop serving
  • Our copy of your data is deleted within 48 hours, as Shopify requires

If you are switching apps, export your subscribers first — once the data is deleted we cannot recover it.

Super Subscription is a Proscube product.
